The task was to experiment with typography using unconventional objects. After discovering the Borax crystal science experiment, I looked closely at the crystals and pictured a celestial, surreal world and a certain whimsy that felt almost fictional. This formed the idea of creating an “otherworldly landscape”.
The process consisted of hand-shaping each letter with chenille stems and growing crystals from the Borax mixture onto the stems overnight. A miniature fictional landscape was then constructed around the lettering.
